The search for HBO Max’s Batgirl narrows down to three choices

July 19, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Batgirl is coming to DC Films, and Warner Bros. is on the hunt for its leading lady.

The three names in the running for the role in the HBO Max Original film are Isabela Merced, Zoey Deutch, and Leslie Grace. Each of them are budding names in the industry, all coming off some pretty solid projects. Isabela Merced is coming off Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Zoey Deutch was the scene-stealer in Zombieland 2, and Leslie Grace was a lead for In The Heights.

Deadline, who broke the story, also notes that Haley Lu Richardson was in talks for the role but has turned down the offer before it went into the testing process.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will direct the pic from a script by Christina Hodson. The directing duo is coming off their popular hit Bad Boys For Life, gearing up to make Beverly Hills Cop 4 while also helming Ms. Marvel for Disney+. Hodson is a budding name in writing, with Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, and DC’s upcoming The Flash.

Little is known about the Batgirl film, but it will focus on Barbara Gordon. She’s the daughter of Commissioner Gordon and joins the Bat-Family behind her father’s back at first. There’s no word yet if Batman will appear, or whether it will be linked to any other DC Films projects.
