Deadline is reporting that Aubrey Plaza has signed on for the lead role in Emily The Criminal, where she will star alongside Gina Gershon (Riverdale) and Megalyn Echikunwoke (Arrow) in addition to producing.
The indie film marks the feature debut of writer-director John Patton Ford and will see Plaza as Emily, a woman “down on her luck and saddled with debt who gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences.”
Plaza was recently seen in the festival favourite Black Bear (read our ★★★★★ review here), while she’ll next appear alongside Michael Caine in Best Sellers, which received its first trailer this past week. She also stars as a “female James Bond”-type character in an as-yet-untitled spy thriller from Guy Ritchie, and was recently cast in Hulu’s TV pilot Olga Dies Dreaming.
