Enola Holmes 2 adds David Thewlis, Sharon Duncan-Brewster and more with Helena Bonham Carter returning

September 30, 2021 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced Enola Holmes 2 has announced several new cast members to the upcoming sequel, including the confirmation Helena Bonham Carter, Susan Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar and Louis Partridge will be reprising their roles from the first film alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill as Enola and Sherlock Holmes.

Carter portrayed Eudoria Holmes, the matriarch of the Holmes family and mother to Sherlock, Mycroft and Enola. Her sudden disappearance kicks off Enola’s detective career as she tries finding out where she went and why she left. Wokoma will reprise her role as Edith, a woman who uses a teashop as a front to teach women jiu-jitsu and is a friend to both Eudoria and Enola.

Akhtar played Inspector Lestrade of the Scotland Yard, another classic character from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories who occasionally helped Sherlock and John Watson on their investigations, but was no match for Sherlock’s intellect and was often the butt of his jokes.

Partridge will return as the Viscount Tewkesbury, Enola’s friend and heir to a wealthy and powerful family within the House of Lords who was the target of a mysterious assassin.

Newcomers to the sequel include David Thewlis (Wonder Woman), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune), Abbie Hern (The Twilight Zone), Hannah Dodd (Fighting with My Family), Gabriel Tierney (Endeavour) and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss in her debut role.

Enola Holmes is based on Nancy Springer’s book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries. Written from 2007 – 2010 with six books in the series, it followed Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ younger sister Enola as she began carving out her own career as a private detective, focusing on solving missing persons cases while eluding her elder brothers who wanted to return her to her boarding school.

Enola Holmes 2 will be directed by the first film’s Harry Bradbeer from a script by returning screenwriter Jack Thorne. Production is scheduled to begin in London later this year.

England, 1884 – a world on the brink of change. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) wakes to find that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for “proper” young ladies. Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history. Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, ENOLA HOLMES is a dynamic new mystery-adventure that introduces the world’s greatest detective to his fiercest competition yet: his teenage sister. The game is afoot.
