Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor returns for new Doctor Who audio adventures

September 9, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Peter Davison’s Doctor has some unfinished business in the latest Doctor Who audio release from Big Finish Productions.  These latest adventures, titled The Lost Resort and Other Stories, reunites the Fifth Doctor with his companions Tegan, Nyssa and Marc as the TARDIS takes them to new locations with familiar faces and familiar enemies.

This new box set sees the Doctor and his companions set off on three adventures thanks to that lovable old malfunctioning TARDIS.  The new adventures are:

  • The Lost Resort by AK Benedict – When the TARDIS materialises on the planetoid Soresia, the Doctor and his companions are drawn in to a tale set in the Welkin Sanatorium.  This seemingly ideal place to recuperate has been consumed by decay and the patients are mere shadows of themselves.  The same cannot be said of their secrets which are as strong and healthy as ever.
  • The Perils of Nellie Bly by Sarah Ward – The Doctor and friends arrive on the RMS Oceanic where they meet the notorious journalist Nellie Bly on the final leg of her voyage to travel the world in less than eighty days.  However, the presence of a saboteur puts the voyage in peril and it’s up to the Doctor to save Nellie Bly’s future.
  • Nightmare of the Daleks by Martyn Waites – The TARDIS finds its way to a drilling rig deep below the surface of planet XB93 where the crew have nightmares of cold, metallic creatures, stalking them through the base, killing them as they sleep.  Seems only fitting that with the arrival of the Doctor, the iconic Daleks are now about to have another run in with their own worst nightmare.

Peter Davison reprises his role as the Doctor, Janet Fielding as Tegan, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa and George Watkins as Marc.  Also joining them are: Ajjaz Awad, Anna Barry, Chandrika Chevli, Clare Louise Connolly, Sydney Feder, Ryan Forde Iosco, Alana Maria, Glen McCready, Daniel O’Meara, Alibe Parsons, Julia Sandiford, Marion Jones, Kayi Ushe and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks.

Producer and director Scott Handcock said: “The Lost Resort picks up from the end of last year’s monthly release Madquake where the Doctor and his companions are reunited in body if not in spirit. It’s a lovely, contemplative story that examines the TARDIS crew’s new dynamics, as well as confronting them with a ghost from their collective past. And The Perils of Nellie Bly and Nightmare of the Daleks form a double-bill of two-parters to round off the mini-season that started with Marc’s introduction.”
