The Guilty is Jake Gyllenhaal’s Best Movie in Years | TIFF 2021 Video Review

September 14, 2021 by EJ Moreno

EJ Moreno with a video review of Netflix’s The Guilty…

Can the power of Jake Gyllenhaal’s acting carry The Guilty to the awards season? Gyllenhaal teams with director Antoine Fuqua in a new Netflix adaption of the Danish film, and it’s a strong outing for all involved.

While not as flashy as other movies from the Toronto International Film Festival, The Guilty has strong directing and even stronger acting that can easily find an audience on the streamer.

The Guilty takes place over the course of a single morning in a 911 dispatch call center. Call operator Joe Bayler (Gyllenhaal) tries to save a caller in grave danger—but he soon discovers that nothing is as it seems, and facing the truth is the only way out.

The Guilty premiered at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival and will run in select theaters in September before hitting Netflix on October 1st.
