Lost Atari Jaguar FMV title American Hero finally releases on PC and consoles

November 12, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Many, many years ago Atari made a console called the Atari Jaguar, it didn’t sell very well but that didn’t deter them and they tried to increase popularity with the release of the Atari Jaguar CD peripheral. It still didn’t sell very well.  However, at the time there was an action-packed FMV (full motion video) game called American Hero under development but never completed….. that is until publisher and developer of retro and modern games, Ziggurat Interactive, got their hands on it and have now released it for PC (via GOG), Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch.

American Hero is an FMV action game that is a complete sendup of all the cheesy ’80s action movies that have become very popular and is filled to the brim with sleazy locations, brain-washed henchmen, a maniacal villain and Golden Globe Award nominee Timothy Bottoms as the titular American Hero.

In this satire of over-the-top 80s action films  players take the role of former American intelligence officer Jack as he sets out on a mission to stop the villainous virologist Krueger from completing his plans to unleash a sinister and deadly virus upon the Los Angeles water supply.  This playable movie will have players making spur-of-the-moment decisions that will help or hinder the hero as he searches for a protects the only scientist able to counter the virus.

Featuring:

  • A fully realised Hollywood-level script with player directed plot and dialogue choices
  • A gritty story with violence and sex appeal
  • An FMV format that plays smoothly
  • The voice talents of Timothy Bottoms as Jack, Daniel Roebuck (The Fugitive) and Musetta Vander (Wild Wild West)

“It’s been an incredible journey to preserve, enhance and complete this unique and ambitious FMV project,” said Michael Devine, SVP of Business Development. “This has been our most challenging restoration so far and getting to release American Hero today is an example of the ethos that drives us to preserve our gaming history.”

American Hero is available now for PC (exclusively on GOG), Xbox, Playstation and Switch.
