New synopsis for The Batman describes the reboot as “an edgy, action-packed thriller”

November 5, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Following on from the stunning new trailer at last month’s DC FanDome, Warner Bros. and DC Films have now unveiled an updated synopsis for The Batman, the upcoming reboot of the Dark Knight from director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson. It reads:

THE BATMAN is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.

When he first boarded the project back in 2017, director Matt Reeves described his take on the DC Comics icon as a “noir-driven, detective version of Batman”, and based upon the footage from the trailers and the synopsis’ focus on the movie’s thriller aspects as much as action, it certainly seems like the filmmaker is on course to deliver on that promise.

The Batman sees Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse) donning the cape and cowl as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano (Escape at Dannemora) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) as Commissioner Pete Savage, Con O’Neill (Ordinary Lies) as Chief Mackenzie Bock, Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson and Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as Bella Real.

The Batman is released on March 4th 2022.
