The MCU to get IMAX Enhanced on Disney+ this Friday

November 10, 2021 by Gary Collinson

It’s Disney+ Day this Friday, and the Mouse House has a host of brand new content incoming as it celebrates the second anniversary of the streaming service.

The big release for Marvel fans is the Disney+ premiere of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Disney and Marvel have announced that audiences will be able to enjoy an ‘IMAX Enhanced’ version of the Phase Four blockbuster – along with twelve other instalments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – as IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio comes to the subscription service.

IMAX Enhanced shows select titles in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio of 1:90:1, allowing for up to 26% more picture on sequences specifically shot for the IMAX format.

“For more than a decade, IMAX has helped filmmakers take fans across the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters, and now that epic journey crosses into a new world: the home,” said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. “IMAX, Disney, and Marvel Studios are giving the fans what they want: the most immersive viewing experience throughout the life of a Marvel Studios film, from exclusive theatrical release to the library at-home where they can now watch the Avengers assemble with more picture than ever before.”

Along with Shang-Chi, fans will be able to access IMAX Enhanced versions of Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow from this Friday.
