X-Men: The Animated Series to return with Marvel’s X-Men ’97

November 12, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The moment you see that logo, you are already humming the iconic theme song in your head. Now, the ‘90s kids can look forward to one of the most memorable animated series making a return. Prepare for X-Men ’97.

Disney+ announced during its anniversary celebration that an X-Men: The Animated Series revival is on the way, coming to the streaming service in 2023. Currently called X-Men ’97, the series will pick up right where the original left off, giving fans a new look at their favorite X-Men.

Coming back for X-Men ’97 are original voice actors Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, and Alyson Court. New voice actors for the series include Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.

In the new series, the head writer and executive producer is Beau DeMayo. Jake Castorena serves as the supervising director, and supervising producer is Charley Feldman.

X-Men: The Animated Series aired between 1992 and 1997, running for five seasons and 76 episodes. It was a success at the time, and many credit the series for introducing a whole new generation to the iconic group of Marvel superheroes. The live-action film series soon followed this series, further launching the X-Men into the mainstream. You can find X-Men: The Animated Series currently streaming on Disney+.

Will Disney use this as a way of warming their core MCU audience members to the X-Men characters? Giving fans this nostalgic trip to the ‘90s will be a perfect way to prepare viewers for the inevitable film introduction.

Only time will tell, but prepare to have that theme song stuck in your head for weeks now…
