January 18, 2022 by Ricky Church

HBO Max has released the first trailer for its pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death starring Rhys Darby (Flight of the Concords) and Taika Waititi (Free Guy). Watch the trailer below…

Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate. Waititi will play the infamous pirate Blackbeard as he and Bonnet meet and travel the seas together.

Starring alongside Darby and Waititi are Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful), Kristian Nairn (Game of Thrones), Nathan Foad (Bloods), Samson Kayo (Truth Seekers), Con O’Neill (The Batman) and Vico Ortiz (Vida).

Our Flag Means Death was created by David Jenkins who is also writing, executive producing and showrunning. Waititi directed the pilot and will executive produce with Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted.

Our Flag Means Death will premiere on HBO Max in March.
