Chris Pine to lead Annette Bening and Danny DeVito in his directorial debut Poolman

February 10, 2022 by Ricky Church

Star Trek and Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine is set to make his debut as a director with his film Poolman. Per Deadline, Pine will also lead the film and star alongside Annette Bening (Death on the Nile) and Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) in the murder-comedy.

Pine will star as “Darren Barrenman, a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny Los Angeles and crashing city council meetings with his neighbors Jack and Diane (DeVito, Bening). When Barrenman uncovers the greatest water heist in LA history since Chinatown he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors – all in the name of protecting his precious Los Angeles.”

AGC Studios is producing and will launch sales at the virtual EFM. The film is described as “Big Lebowski meets LA film noir with a healthy splash of La La Land.”

Pine co-wrote the script with Ian Gotler and the two will produce through Pine’s Barry Linen Motion Pictures company. Pine’s Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins will also produce through Wicious Pictures alongside Shiny Penny Productions’ Stacey Sher.

Poolman is eyeing a June 2022 production start date with filming taking place in LA.
