Sacha Baron Cohen joins Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV+ series Disclaimer

February 27, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to join Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón’s (Gravity, Roma) Apple TV+ series Disclaimer, where he’ll join the previously announced Cate Blanchett (Nightmare Alley) and Kevin Kline (Beauty and the Beast).

Based on Renee Knight’s novel, the series will see Blanchett portraying “Catherine Ravenscroft, a successful and respected television documentary journalist whose work has been built on revealing the concealed transgressions of long-respected institutions. When an intriguing novel written by a widower, played by Kline, appears on her bedside table, she is horrified to realize she is a key character in a story that she had hoped was long buried in the past, one that reveals her darkest secret.”

Details on Cohen’s role are being kept under wraps. The project will mark Cohen’s first TV role since Netflix’s The Spy in 2019, and since then he’s enjoyed critical acclaim – and a pair of Oscar nominations – for Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago Seven (Best Supporting Actor) and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (Best Adapted Screenplay).

Disclaimer is being written, directed and executive produced by Cuarón and will mark the first time that he’ll write and direct every episode of an original series.
