Elvis star Austin Butler in talks for Dune 2’s villainous Feyd-Rautha

March 11, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Dune: Part II is wasting no time in mining talent to add to its already impressive ensemble, because following the story that Florence Pugh is in talks for the sci-fi sequel, news arrives that Elvis star Austin Butler is being tapped to play the villainous Feyd-Rautha, nephew to Stellan Skarsgard’s Baron.

According to THR, Austin is currently in negotiations to star in the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s passion-project blockbuster, where he will be part of the dastardly House Harkonnen as they confront the uprising led by Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), who is fighting alongside the Fremen in order to free the desert planet of Arrakis.

Austin is expected to be one of the breakout stars of 2022, having taken the lead role in Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic, alongside Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker. He was previously seen as one of the Manson Family in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood…

Dune grossed over $400M at the worldwide box-office, despite being a seemingly impenetrable science-fiction opus released into a world deep into a pandemic, and being part of Warner Bros. day-and-date release strategy, which no doubt saw it pirated to the four corners of the world and beyond.

Does this make you even more excited for Dune: Part Two, or couldn’t you give an Arrakis about it? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).

Dune: Part Two is tentatively scheduled for release on October  20th 2023.
