Renee Zellweger to lead the WASPs in World War II drama Avenger Field

March 10, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger is teaming with Peacock to executive produce and star in Avenger Field, a World War II drama series inspired by the true story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs).

Avenger Field has been written by showrunner Felicia D. Henderson (Gossip Girl, Empire), with Susanna White (Woman Walks Ahead, Our Kind of Traitor) directing, and promises to celebrate “the brave women (and men) that executed a clandestine all female US Airforce program called the WASPS to battle Hitler’s evil from home.”

Zellweger will play WASPS leader Jackie Cohran, “who along with a diverse group of brave and righteous women fought the system, skeptics and even sabotage to bring everyone home safely.”

Next up from Judy star Zellweger is another limited series inspired by true events, The Thing About Pam, which sees the actress starring as convicted murderer Pamela Hupp. Watch the trailer here.
