Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gets PG-13 rating for “frightening images” and “intense violence and action”

April 14, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Much has been made of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness being the first Marvel Studios movie to dip its toes into the realm of horror, with head honcho Kevin Feige teasing recently that the Sam Raimi-directed sequel “will make fans of Evil Dead II very happy”.

As we’ve seen in with the trailers, the horror element does indeed look to be present, and while the film has received Marvel’s standard PG-13 rating this has been reflected in the ratings advice from the Motion Picture Association, which states that Multiverse of Madness features “intense sequences of violence and action, frightening images, and some language”.

Marvel certainly isn’t going to want to kick off its 2022 theatrical slate by scarring kids for the rest of their childhoods, so we can’t imagine there’ll be anything much more “frightening” than what we’ve already seen in the promotional material. That being said, those with younger children might want to start putting the feelers out for a babysitter with the film now just three weeks out from release…
