Margot Robbie’s Barbie movie rounds out its cast

April 18, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Having already assembled some rather impressive talent to star alongside Margot Robbie in the long-gestating Barbie movie, Warner Bros., Mattel and director Greta Gerwig have now filled out the supporting cast of the film as production continues in London.

Joining the previously announced Robbie, Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049), Will Ferrell (Step Brothers), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell), America Ferrera (Superstore), Ariana Greenblatt (Love and Monsters) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education) are — take a deep breath — Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick… BOOM!), Issa Rae (The Lovebirds), Michael Cera (Arrested Development), Hari Nef (And Just Like That…), Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami), Rhea Perlman (Cheers), Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education), Emerald Fennell (The Crown), Sharon Rooney (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Ana Cruz Kayne (Little Women), Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy) and Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag).

Barbie marks the third solo directorial effort for Greta Gerwig after the Best Picture-nominated Lady Bird and Little Women. Gerwig and Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story) have written the script, while Margot Robbie is producing through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner along with David Heyman of Heyday Films and Robbie Brenner of Mattel.

Barbie is slated for release in 2023.
