Blue Beetle set photos show Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña as DC’s new hero

Filming on Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Blue Beetle got underway earlier this month, and the past week has given us our very first look at DC’s newest hero as Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña was spotted out and about shooting scenes as teenager Jamie Reyes in full, highly-comic book accurate costume; check out some set photos and video courtesy of social media…

The Blue Beetle movie focusses on the Jamie Reyes incarnation of the character, an ordinary Latino teenager who discovers a mysterious extra-terrestrial scarab, which bonds to his spine and grants him a suit of armour.

Joining Maridueña in the cast of the film are Harvey Guillen (What We Do In the Shadows), Bruna Marquezine (Breaking Through), Bellisa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), George Lopez (No Man’s Land), Adriana Barraza (Babel), Elpidia Carrillo (Euphoria), Damián Alcázar (Narcos) and Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayans M.C.), while Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise) will play the villain, the original character Victoria Kord.

Blue Beetle is being directed by Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) is from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala), and the film is slated for a theatrical release on August 18th 2023, having initially been developed as an HBO Max streaming original.
