First announced back in 2020 during Disney’s Investor Day presentation, we now have a premiere date for Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff I Am Groot, with the series animated shorts set to hit the Disney+ streaming service this August.
I Am Groot is the first Guardians-related project to come to Disney+, and will be followed later in the year by the live-action The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which reunites writer-director James Gunn with the cast of his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
The shorts will follow Baby Groot (voiced once more by Vin Diesel) as he grows up, getting into various adventures across the galaxy with new and unusual characters. Kirsten Lepore (Adventure Time) is directing the shorts, and executive producing with James Gunn and Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Brad Winderbaum of Marvel Studios.
I Am Groot will premiere with five shorts on Disney+ on August 10th.
