Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse villain The Spot revealed

June 15, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Although we’re still the best part of a year out from the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Sony Pictures is already looking to build hype for the first sequels to its Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse by unveiling a first look at the new villain.

As released on the official Twitter account, the above image shows Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) battling The Spot, a villain whose spots on his body are interdimensional portals or space warps which allow him to travel freely and instantaneously via the ‘Spotworld’ dimension.

Wes Anderson regular Jason Schwartzman will lend his voice to The Spot, who is set to be the villain in both Across the Spider-Verse and its 2024 sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The character was originally created by Al Milgrom and Herb Trimpe back in the mid-80s, and he has previously appeared in animated form in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson,  Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) features the voice talents of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter. B Parker, Oscar Issac as Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Jason Schwartzman as The Spot.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse  is set for release on June 2nd 2023.
