Squid Game 2 officially confirmed by Netflix

June 12, 2022 by EJ Moreno

We all knew it was coming, but Netflix has now officially confirmed the news of Squid Game Season 2. In a tweet, the streamer showcased a teaser for the new season, hinting at more dangerous games – and we also know a fan favorite is coming back, for sure.

“Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming,” writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk announces. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show… Join us once more for a whole new round.”

With its massive success, it’s no shock that season two is on its way. Squid Game is the biggest show to launch on Netflix to date. It’s the first Korean series to reach No. 1 in the U.S. Top 10. Ninety-five percent of Squid Game viewership came from outside Korea.

Squid Game revolves around a contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial debt, participate in a series of traditional Korean children’s games such as Red Light, Green Light, and Tug of war to win 45.6 billion won; however, the consequence for losing the games is death. The creator has previously confirmed that Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun and Lee Byung-hun’s The Front Man will be returning for the sophomore season.

The first season of Squid Game is available to stream now on Netflix.
