James Gunn says DC Studios is open to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and other DC fan requests

November 7, 2022 by EJ Moreno

As James Gunn enters the new era as the chief of DC Studios, he is looking to make friends with all sides of the fandom.

During a Twitter thread on Sunday, Gunn took the social media platform to express that he plans on giving DC fans an experience like never before.

With so many corners of the DC Universe looking for their time to shine, Gunn said he is aware of fan movements like Save Legends of Tomorrow and Release The Ayer Cut (David Ayer’s version of 2016’s Suicide Squad).

“Opened up Twitter at the end of a long, creative weekend to see the many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow and #ReleaseTheAyerCut and fan support for other DC projects over the years. The majority of these requests were enthusiastic and respectful,” says Gunn in a tweet.

“As the new (and first ever) CEOs of DC Studios,” he adds, “Peter and I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, and let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.”

“Although our ability to interact on Twitter has been lessened due to the workload of our new positions, we are listening and open to everything as we embark on this journey, and will continue to do so for the next few years.”

Gunn does note that the first projects up for DC Studios won’t be revivals.

“All our initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, and telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, and animated projects,” Gunn said. “We invite all of the DC fandoms from across the multiverse — and everyone else as well — into this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.”

For those unaware, James Gunn and Peter Safran are now in charge of the DC movie universe. Warner Bros. has dubbed it DC Studios, and Gunn will head the creative division while Safran runs the business end.
