Liam Neeson hopes to shoot The Naked Gun reboot in the summer

January 21, 2023 by Gary Collinson

Back in January 2021 it was announced that Liam Neeson was circling a reboot of the classic Leslie Nielsen spoof The Naked Gun for Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, before the project was granted the official green light this past October by Paramount.

Now, during an interview with Collider to promote his 100th career film Marlowe [watch the trailer here], Neeson has shared a brief update on the reboot, stating that they hope to shoot in the summer.

“Yes, we’re waiting on a script,” said Neeson when asked by the outlet whether the reboot is still moving ahead. “We’re hoping it’ll happen this year, maybe in the summertime… I approached Seth MacFarlane, he and his team are working on it, the scripts. So, we’re hoping to go in the summertime, you know?”

While details on the project are scarce, it’s believed that Neeson will play Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Nielsen’s Police Squad legend Lt. Frank Drebin. MacFarlane is producing, while Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer will direct from a script by his Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
