M3GAN will slash again: M3GAN 2.0 set for 2025

January 19, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The new killer doll on the block is ready for more as a M3GAN sequel is officially on the way.

To the surprise of no one, James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse have announced they’ll be producing M3GAN 2.0, the sequel to the pop culture phenomenon.

Akela Cooper, the writer behind the first entry, is writing the script. Also returning are the film’s stars, Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, who survived the first attack from M3GAN. There’s no word in the reports if M3GAN herself, Amie Donald (on-set acting) and Jenna Davis (voice acting), will also return.

Not only was the film a critical success, landing at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, but M3GAN also grossed $30.4 M domestically on its opening weekend before making nearly $100 million worldwide. For reference, the budget was only $12 million before marketing. Though, they did an impressive marketing campaign, which helped the film reach a teen demographic and campy horror fans. The combo proved successful, as the sequel was green-lit less than a month after release.

The film has even set a release date; M3GAN 2.0 will be unleashed on January 17th, 2025.

M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.

M3GAN features a cast that includes Get Out’s Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey, and Stephane Garneau-Monten.
