Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part Two brings an old face in from the cold

Rolf Saxon is back nearly 30 years after appearing in the original Mission: Impossible as filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie has taken to Instagram to share a photo of Saxon as William Donloe, a vital but most likely forgotten character from one of 1996’s most iconic scenes.

Donloe was a CIA analyst in the building’s high-security records vault, where he had his coffee spiked so Ethan Hunt could drop from the ceiling and steal the NOC list. It was arguably one of the most iconic scenes in the original and helped launch this franchise to a new level.

In a pretty hilarious gag, later in the film, Henry Czerny’s Eugene Kittridge would reassign Donloe to a polar substation in Alaska “by the end of the day.” Given the desolate location featured here, it seems like Saxon’s Donloe is still there.

Dead Reckoning Part One will hit theatres this summer on July 24th, with Cruise and several Mission: Impossible veterans returning alongside a host of new faces. Dead Reckoning Part Two is scheduled for next summer on June 28th, 2024, and will continue the story of Ethan Hunt’s epic mission.

Once again directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One features M: I returnees Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Frederick Schmidt, and Henry Czerny, along with new additions Esai Morales (Titans), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Charles Parnell (The Last Ship), Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride), and Greg Tarzan Davis (Top Gun: Maverick).

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is set for release on July 24th, 2023, and Part Two on June 28th, 2024.
