Chris Hemsworth on why he wanted Extraction 2: “I love having something else outside of Marvel”

May 24, 2023 by EJ Moreno

For the biggest stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, success outside of those films can be challenging. Countless stars try to find a new franchise to take them to new levels, but few have had such luck. Chris Hemsworth could be breaking that curse with his upcoming Netflix film Extraction 2.

The Thor: Love and Thunder actor spoke to Total Film (via GameRader) alongside the film’s director and explained why this budding film franchise is vital to him and his career.

Hemsworth tells the outlet, “I love it. I love playing the character. I love this world. I love having something outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world. I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world. We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one.”

Director Sam Hargrave backs up that sentiment: “There is so much room for this franchise to expand and places where it can go. I’m excited about what that next adventure for Tyler Rake could be. We’ll see how this one does. We’ll see how people feel and respond. And if the world is craving another Tyler Rake adventure, I think it’d be something I’d be interested in seeing put up on screen. I have an idea, but I won’t give it away here…”

Before we start talking about Extraction 3, Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake will return to Netflix this June with the release of Extraction 2.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake in EXTRACTION 2, the sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster action film EXTRACTION. After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.

Extraction 2 kicks, punches, and explodes its way onto Netflix on June 16th.
