The Boys: Gen V showrunners tease a second season

October 12, 2023 by EJ Moreno

It’s been some time since there’s been a downright hit in the superhero space, let alone an acclaimed series loved by old fans and newcomers. Sure, some movies and shows have made a splash, but The Boys spinoff Gen V took the world by storm earlier this month with its release on Amazon.

Now, we can see the second season already taking shape as the showrunners behind the spin-off and the team at Amazon are delighted by the series’ success, which currently sits on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 97%.

Michele Fazekas, the showrunner on The Boys spin-off, notes that Gen V has not been picked up for a second season yet, but the team is already cooking up ideas on how to top their impressive debut season.

Fazekas tells The Wrap: “We do not have an official season to order yet. We’ve gotten the writers together to talk about what’s possible. So we’re hopeful.”

Showrunner Eric Kripke also spoke about the budding writer’s room for season two, stating, “We need to see how the show performs, and we need to see if people are watching it and if Amazon’s happy. The fact that Amazon has paid for Michele to have a second season [writers] room is a good sign. So, you know, fingers crossed.”

Fazekas goes on to add: “The nice thing about working with Eric and working with Amazon is we’re not beholden to, ‘You have to go for X number of years.’ It’s like, where does the story take us? Where do the characters take us? I like being able to make decisions based on that versus based on hitting a number.”

What do you make of Gen V? Are you excited about the prospect of a second season? Let us know on our socials @FlickeringMyth…

Gen V is currently releasing new episodes on Prime Video every Friday.
