Despicable Me 4 Super Bowl spot reveals the truth behind Artificial Intelligence

February 12, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Universal Pictures and Illumination Studios have released a Super Bowl teaser for Despicable Me 4 that reveals the evil genius behind the looming threat of A.I. upon the world. Narrated by John Hamm, the video depicts a series of ‘shocking’ images, before pulling back to reveal who’s really in control of what we see.

Despicable Me 4 brings back the voice talent of Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, Madison Polan, Steve Coogan, and Pierre Coffin as the iconic Minions, while new additions to the cast include Will Ferrell (Anchorman) as the evil Maxime Le Mal, Sofia Vergara (Griselda) as his girlfriend Valentina, as well as Joey King (Bullet Train), Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and Chloe Fineman (SNL).

Directed by the co-creator of the Minions, Chris Renaud (The Secret Life of Pets), alongside Patrick Delage (animation director on The Secret Life of Pets 2), with a screenplay written by the Emmy winning creator of White Lotus, Mike White, and the veteran writer of every Despicable Me film, Ken Daurio. Check out the Super Bowl spot below…

In the first Despicable Me movie in seven years, Gru, the world’s favorite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for an exciting, bold new era of Minions mayhem in Illumination’s Despicable Me 4. Following the 2022 summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru (Oscar® nominee Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Oscar® nominee Kristen Wiig) and their girls —Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan)—welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad. Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Emmy winner Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run.

Despicable Me 4 hits theaters on July 3rd.
