Pitch Perfect 3 talks underway, Kay Cannon and Elizabeth Banks set to return?

June 11, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

We’ll be back pitches!

It was only a matter of time before talk surfaced about a third film in the hugely successful Pitch Perfect franchise (well, it is a franchise now), and word from The Hollywood Reporter is that negotiations and pre-production may already be underway.

Talks have begun with screenwriter Kay Cannon, writer of the first two films, to return to write the third movie, but negotiations are yet to take place with Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks, who is also one of the producers of the series. However, Banks had this to say to Access Hollywood during promotion for her new film Love & Mercy: “We’re thinking about it, we’re thinking about it very seriously…Of course we’re at the very beginning of that process.. We would love to spend more time with these characters that everyone’s fallen so hard in love with.”

The second film saw Anna Kendrick’s Becca seemingly hand-off the reigns of the Barden Bellas to new recruit Hailee Steinfeld, but while all fans would welcome Kendrick and indeed Rebel Wilson back to the mix, it may be an expensive venture. Kendrick and Wilson both earned a reported $2 million each for the sequel which cost around $29 million to make, and may be quite a bit more expensive should the makers want to duo to return.

But money talks in Hollywood, and the sequel has enjoyed stunning box-office performance across the globe, which included a whopping $69.2 million opening weekend, and $250 million worldwide to date from its relatively small budget.

Would you like to see a Pitch Perfect 3? Should Kendrick and Wilson return, or would a new set of Bellas sing their way into fans hearts? Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.

Pitch Perfect 2 is still playing in cinemas across the US and UK.
