World War Z sequel reportedly pushed back, yet again

April 20, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures announced that it had pushed back production on the zombie blockbuster sequel World War Z from the summer to the fall, and now comes word of another delay, this time preventing the movie from shooting this year.

The original decision to move back production was to allow returning star Brad Pitt time to shoot Quentin Tarantino’s new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but with director David Fincher now turning his attention to the second season of Netflix’s Mindhunter, it seems the plan is to begin production on World War Z 2 some time in 2019.

The Playlist reports that the sequel remains firmly in development, and locating scouting in Spain, Sweden and Texas has taken place. However, it’s said that the script – which last had Steven Knight and Dennis Kelly attached – “isn’t quite there” and still needs work before the project moves ahead.

The original World War Z was released in 2003, after suffering several delays and production setbacks itself, including seven weeks of additional photography and a reworked third act. Nevertheless, it proved a critical and commercial success with over $540 million at the box office worldwide.
