Marvel has been meeting with several female filmmakers for Black Widow movie

April 29, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in January it was announced that Marvel Studios had hired Jac Schaeffer (The Shower) to pen a script for a Black Widow solo movie, and now comes word from THR that Marvel has been meeting with several potential directors.

According to the site, the studio is keen to enlist a female filmmaker for Black Widow, and has held meetings with the likes of Deniz Gamze Erguven (Mustang), Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and Amma Asante (A United Kingdom), with the search ongoing.

Details on the Black Widow movie are being kept tightly under wraps, but a recent report suggested that it would be a prequel set before Scarlett Johansson’s debut in Iron Man 2, and that Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier could make an appearance.

Should Marvel hire a female director for Black Widow, it would become the first MCU movie to be helmed solely by a woman, although Anna Boden is currently directing Captain Marvel with Ryan Fleck. Patty Jenkins was also previously attached to director Thor: Ragnarok, but left the project due to creative differences before going on to make Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.
