Adam Warlock was considered for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War

April 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Given the key role that the character plays in The Infinity Gauntlet comic book storyline, there was some expectation that Adam Warlock would be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase Three, paving the way for him to appear in Avengers: Infinity War and/or its as-yet-untitled sequel.

While he was teased in one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s post-credits scenes, it appears we’re not going to get a glimpse of Adam Warlock until Phase Four or beyond, with James Gunn teasing him as a possible character for Guardians Vol. 3 in 2020.

Nevertheless, screenwriter Christopher Markus has revealed that Adam was briefly considered for Infinity War, but “we didn’t introduce Adam Warlock, because it’s a massive backbend and you practically have to make an Adam Warlock movie to introduce him. He just can’t walk onscreen. So, there was a brief moment where we were like, Ehhh…, and then we were like– [He points to the movie’s poster.] We have that many characters already! And then there were others we couldn’t use. Like, Silver Surfer would have been useful, but we can’t touch him. Currently.”

As it happens, Silver Surfer was also rumoured for Infinity War, but those reports turned out to be wide of the mark.
