Original Suspiria star praises the remake, calling it “brilliantly scary”

May 3, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The star of the original Suspiria has praised the horror remake as “brilliantly scary”.

Suspiria is recognised as one of the all-time great horror movies and certainly one of the most creative and visual spectacles of the genre.

Telling a story of a young woman who joins a prestigious dance school which is actually a front for a den of witches, Suspiria has now been remade for today’s audiences.

Jessica Harper, who starred in the 1977 original, has apparently seen the remake and thinks very highly of it. The actress took to her Facebook page and revealed her thoughts on what she says is a very scary film.

“I have seen this movie–the most brilliantly scary film I have ever seen,” the actress shared. “[Director] Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name does not prepare you for it, but throws into relief the director’s brilliance and versatility…”

The remake is supposedly set in 1977 as well so it will be very interesting to compare the two once this new version of Suspiria hits cinema screens.

Susie Bannion, a young American woman, travels to the prestigious Markos Tanz Company in Berlin in the year 1977. She arrives just as one of the Company’s members, Patricia, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. As Susie makes extraordinary progress under the guidance of Madame Blanc, the Company’s revolutionary artistic director, she befriends another dancer, Sara, who shares her suspicions that the Matrons, and the Company itself, may be harboring a dark and menacing secret.`

Suspiria features a cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Jessica Harper.
