John Lithgow cast in Pet Sematary remake

May 5, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

John Lithgow has joined Jason Clarke in Paramount Pictures upcoming remake of Pet Sematary, based on the classic horror novel by Stephen King.

Pet Sematary tells the story of Louis Creed (Clarke), a doctor who moves to a small rural town in Maine with his wife, two children and pet cat Church. Behind their new home is a pet cemetery, and lying beyond that is an ancient burial ground which allows creatures buried there to be brought back from the dead.

Lithgow is set to portray Jud Crandall, the kindly but lonely neighbour of Clarke’s Louis, who introduced the family to the cemetery and the secrets it holds. The character was played by Fred Gwynne in the original 1989 adaptation.

Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (Starry Eyes) are directing the new Pet Sematary from a script by Jeff Buhler (Nightflyers), with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (1408), Mark Vahradian (Transformers) and Steven Schneider (Insidious) producing.
