Rumoured details on new Supergirl and The Flash characters

May 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With The CW’s various DC superhero shows all receiving renewals, That Hashtag Show is reporting details on possible character additions for the new seasons of two of them in Supergirl and The Flash.

According to the site, season four of Supergirl is looking to introduce ‘Nia Nal’, a transgender character in her early 20s, who “is filled with confidence and after having worked as writing speeches related to politics, she is now joining the Cat Co family as one of their latest journalist.”

Next up is ‘Ben’, a “Michael Shannon-type” businessman whose success has burned to the ground, and – blaming others for his failure – he has now made it his life goal to correct those wrongs.

‘Colonel Haley’ is described as a woman in her mid to late 40s, whose “actions make it clear that she is someone you don’t want to mess with, without her having to say a word. She is loyal to her commanding officer as well as her country by making sure she puts its best interest ahead of her own.”

Meanwhile, a British actor is being sought for ‘Chester Green’, who the outlets speculates could be the character of Manchester Black, and is described as being able to “bring a sword to a gun fight and yet end up victorious. He has a dark background that has now put a heavy burden on his shoulders. In missions, however, his charm is so strong that it ends up helping him avoid the brutality of the situation.

Turning to The Flash now, and the site has unearthed a casting call for ‘Desmond Paull’ (which they believe to be a codename), who is described as “a metahuman who, after a mysterious interaction with dark matter, was given not only immortality but also the gift to disable other meta-human powers. He blames metas for everything that has gone wrong in his life and because of that, his mission is to wipe Central City free of them in order to silence his own anguish.”

Based on the above, That Hashtag Show is suggesting that Desmond Paull will be the main villain of the season, and could well be the character of David Hersch a.k.a. Cicada, who was created by Geoff Johns and made his first appearance in 2001’s The Flash #170.

In the comic books, Cicada gained his powers after being struck by lightning during a suicide attempt after killing his wife. Believing himself to be connected to Barry Allen, Cicada formed a cult dedicated to killing everyone who the Flash has ever saved.

With filming on Supergirl and The Flash set to get underway this summer, expect some official casting news soon.
