John C. Reilly confirms that Wreck-It Ralph 2 is definitely happening

July 13, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Back in 2012, just a few months after its release, Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore teased that he and the studio higher-ups had already had conversations about the possibility of a sequel.

Moore said that they had been throwing around ideas that included introducing Mario, “We’ll really come up with something good for Mario…to be able to present him in the sequel would be great.” Sounds awesome to me but it was all just rumours back then.

Well now it looks like Wreck-It Ralph 2 is definitely happening.

While attending the Galway Film Fleadh, John C. Reilly – who voices the titular star – confirmed that he had officially signed on for the sequel. We don’t have a quote but according to attendee Penny Hart – who works as a producer for radio talk show RTEArena – Reilly dropped the news during an interview.

It’s not a huge surprise that Disney are up for a sequel considering Wreck-It Ralph took over $470 million worldwide and was one of the biggest Walt Disney Animation Studio’s movie before Frozen smashed the records. The concept behind Wreck-It Ralph is also an interesting place to revisit and offers countless opportunities to explore.

No official word from Rich Moore or Disney yet but we’re sure something will be announced at D23 Expo which takes place in Anaheim next month.
