Matthew Vaughn announces Kick-Ass reboot, Kingsman sequel, spinoffs and TV show

June 10, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having enjoyed success with two Mark Millar comic book adaptations, filmmaker Matthew Vaughn has revealed to Empire that he has big plans for both Kick-Ass and Kingsman as part of his newly-established Marv Studios.

“We’re going to reboot Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl,” Vaughn revealed, stating that we’ll be getting both a new Kick-Ass movie and a potential Hit-Girl solo film. “Look what Mark Millar is doing with the comic for clues.”

For those not up to speed with the Kick-Ass comics, the newly-launched volume focuses on a brand new character, African-American single mother and military veteran Patience Lee. Vaughn’s comments would seem to suggest this could be the route for the reboot, and indeed Mark Millar has already teased the possibility, revealing that he’d like to see Thor: Ragnarok star Tessa Thompson in the role.

Meanwhile, Vaughn also confirmed that Kingsman 3 is moving ahead, and will shoot back to back with the spinoff Kingsman: The Great Game, which takes place in the early 1900s. Plans are also afoot for a Statesman film, further exploring the world of Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry’s American agents, as well as an eight-hour Kingsman TV show.

First up from Marv Studios however is the Elton John “fantastic musical” Rocketman, which will see Kingsman star Taron Egerton taking on the role of the music icon.
