Ron Howard says that reports of Star Wars Anthology movies ending are not “entirely accurate”

June 28, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard has said that reports of Lucasfilm shelving future anthology films are not “entirely accurate”.

Solo certainly didn’t go the way Lucasfilm was hoping in terms of box office numbers and in the weeks after its release, there have been reports of Lucasfilm ending work on future anthology movies and focusing on other areas of the Star Wars universe.

Well, according to Ron Howard, this isn’t quite the case, with the director telling TMZ that he has a different understanding of how things are playing out behind the scenes:

“I don’t think it’s entirely accurate. I think that was reported, but I don’t think that’s what I understand. Everybody at Lucasfilm and Disney really cares about the fans. I think it’s an ongoing process of discovering what it can be and what it can all add up to. It’s a process, and personally, I like that they take some chances, take some risks and see how people respond to it.”

It’s certainly hard to tell what exactly is going on and with Lucasfilm not making any concrete announcements about future films after Star Wars: Episode IX, speculation will only continue. At the very least, Howard isn’t calling these solo films dead quite yet.

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story features Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi’Ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, Ian Kenny (Sing Street) as Rebolt, Harley Durst (Wonder Woman) as Moloch, Jon Favreau (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Rio Durant, Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) as Dryden Vos and Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi) as Weazel.
