Lucasfilm reportedly considered adapting fan favourite Star Wars Legends story for Boba Fett film

July 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

While there’s been a lot of rumours circulating about the future of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Anthology movies following the disappointing box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, all signs seem to suggest that the studio still intends on moving forward with its Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett projects.

With regards to the latter, we know that Logan helmer James Mangold is attached to write and direct, and while plot details are being kept under wraps, author Daniel Keys Moran has revealed to Star Wars Interviews that Lucasfilm had previously given some thought to adapting one of his Star Wars Legends short stories.

“I’ve had a guy at Disney email me a couple times over the years regarding Lucasfilm adapting Last One Standing into a Fett movie,” said Moran. “Not asking permission, they own those works, just letting me know they were thinking about it. So that was kind. But after Solo stiffed, apparently there’s some question about the Fett movie being made.”

The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett was published in the Tales of the Bounty Hunters anthology in 1996, and the fan favourite storyjame explores Fett’s origin as well as his post-Sarlaac life, along with his rivalry with Han Solo.

Of course, with James Mangold only just signing on to the project in May, it’s entirely possible that he’ll take the story in a completely different direction, should the project still remain part of Disney and Lucasfilm’s future Star Wars plans.
