Rosario Dawson joins Mr. Robot creator’s new drama pilot Briarpatch

July 12, 2018 by Gary Collinson

THR is reporting that Rosario Dawson has signed on for the lead role in Briarpatch, a new hour-long drama pilot from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, which is set up at USA Network.

The project is based upon the novel by Ross Thomas, and will see Dawson portraying “Allegra “Pick” Dill (Dawson), a tenacious and highly skilled investigator working in Washington, D.C., for a young, ambitious senator. When her 10-years-younger sister, a homicide detective, is killed by a car bomb, Allegra returns to her corrupt Texas hometown. What begins as a search for the murderer becomes a fraught and dangerous excavation of the past Allegra has long sought to bury.”

Described as “a mix of crime, thriller, mystery and pulp fiction”, Briarpatch has been scripted by Andy Greenwald, who will executive produce with Esmail, Dawson, and Anonymous Content’s Chad Hamilton.

Dawson has picked up a lot of small screen experience with Marvel’s Netflix series Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, and has received multiple pilot offers this season, passing on all of them until Briarpatch came along.
