Christopher McQuarrie is open to directing Man of Steel 2, can’t predict if Tom Cruise would be interested in Green Lantern Corps

July 25, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Christopher McQuarrie has said that he would be interested in directing Man of Steel 2 and has revealed that he’s never talked with Tom Cruise about a potential Green Lantern film.

A director of the calibre of Christopher McQuarrie is going to be discussed for many high profile films, and with the critical praise that Mission: Impossible – Fallout is receiving, that’s only going to increase.

The director has been rumoured to helm DC films in the past, namely Man of Steel 2, and McQuarrie has now revealed to Screen Rant that he would jump at the chance to work with Henry Cavill again:

“To me, I’m interested in a good story. That’s really what it is. I mean, when Man of Steel came up, it was because somebody had asked me, did I want to work with Henry again? Which I would in a second. I go through the door that opens.”

Another DC film that McQuarrie’s name has been linked to is Green Lantern Corps, along with his frequent collaborator Tom Cruise in a starring role. However, the director has said that he and Cruise haven’t discussed the project:

“You know, I got to say, Tom and I have never talked about it. We always kind of talk about what we’re working on or what we’re talking about working on next. I think, again, I think if you show them a good story, I think if you showed him a really emotional story, I don’t think, you know, it’s, I can never predict. I can never predict what it is he’s going to be drawn to.”

So it seems like Cruise could be tempted by Green Lantern Corps if McQuarrie could present him with an engaging story, or maybe just add some outrageous, life-risking stunts into the script. Man of Steel 2 with Henry Cavill seems more likely, however. Would you like to see the director involved with either of these movies?

The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout sees Tom Cruise joined by returning stars Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris and Michelle Monaghan, along with new additions Henry Cavill (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sian Brooke (Sherlock), Angela Bassett (American Horror Story) and Vanessa Kirby (The Crown). It is set for release on July 27th, 2018.
