Marvel Studios kicked off 2018 in style back in February with the release of Black Panther, with the Chadwick Boseman-headlined superhero adventure proving to be an enormous success at the box office with $1.346 billion in receipts around the film.
The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, already has the distinction of being the highest-grossing superhero movie ever in North America, and yesterday it became only the third film in history to cross the $700 million mark domestically after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.7 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million).
As you’d expect, Marvel is already working on a sequel to Black Panther, with Ryan Coogler reportedly in talks to return to the director’s chair.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.
