Doom Patrol casts Joivan Wade as Cyborg, Mr. Nobody rumoured to be the villain

August 9, 2018 by Ricky Church

Cyborg will be coming to the DC Universe’s Doom Patrol as British actor Joivan Wade (The First Purge) has been cast as the cybernetic hero. The series spins out of the upcoming Titans series and will introduce the Doom Patrol before their own series premieres.

Wade’s Vic Stone is the charming and sarcastic half-human, half-machine superhero known as Cyborg. Vic may be connected to every computer on the world, but he struggles to maintain the connections that make him human. Desperate to gain acceptance from the outside world, Vic harnesses the curse of his cybernetic body and uses his powers as the ultimate hero for the digital age. Ray Fisher recently portrayed Cyborg on the big screen for Justice League.

In addition to Wade’s casting, The Hashtag Show has reported the possible villain for Doom Patrol will be Mr. Nobody, a villain who has the power to drain the sanity from his victims, though it leaves him insane as well. The show has described him as a man “seeking vengeance on the person he holds responsible for the failed experiment that caused his condition which, in addition to his insanity, has left him stuck between two dimensions. While the villain’s absurd and twisted methodologies will put him into the path of the Doom Patrol, he’ll come to admire the group despite a loathing for superheroes.” The series is reportedly looking for an A-list actor to portray him.

Starring as members of the Doom Patrol are Bruno Bichir (Narcos) as Dr. Niles Caulder/The Chief, April Bowlby (Drop Dead Diva) as Rita Farr/Elasti-Girl, Jake Michaels (Designated Survivor) as Cliff Steele/Robotman, Dwain Murphy (Star Trek: Discovery) as Larry Trainor / Negative Man and Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black) as Crazy Jane.

Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl, and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities – but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of fellow DC Universe series “Titans,” “Doom Patrol” will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.

Doom Patrol is being written by Jeremy Carver (Supernatural), and has a 13-episode straight-to-series order to begin airing on DC Universe in 2019.
