H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine coming to the small screen

August 18, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

With filming underway on a BBC adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds, Deadline is reporting that Sky Television and House Productions are to adapt another of the authors novels, by developing a small screen iteration of The Time Machine.

The project is in the “very early stages of development”, with Nick Payne (Wanderlust) on scripting duties, and Kibwe Tavares (Noughts & Crosses) set to direct.

First published in 1895, The Time Machine last found its way onto the screen in the form of the 2002 Guy Pearce flop, which was directed by Wells’ grandson, Simon. It tells the story of an English scientist hosting a dinner party, who posits that time is a fourth dimension, and that he has built a machine which allows him to travel through it.

The show will probably find a home on Sky Atlantic, home of the network’s other big-budget TV productions, such as Riviera and Tin Star.
