Back in June it was announced that Greta Gerwig is set to follow her acclaimed directorial debut Lady Bird with a big screen adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, and now comes word that Laura Dern (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) is in talks to join the project.
Should a deal be reached, Dern will join a star-studded cast that includes Gerwig’s Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet alongside Meryl Streep (The Post), Emma Stone (La La Land), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth), Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects) and James Norton (McMafia).
Little Women follows the four teenage March sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother Marmee as they navigate life in Civil War-era Massachusetts while their father is acting as a pastor in the war. The new adaptation is set for release on Christmas Day 2019.
