Captain Marvel trailer tops Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther for views in first 24 hours

September 20, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

On Tuesday, Marvel pulled back the curtain on its first female-led superhero movie with the release of the first trailer for Captain Marvel, and if the amount of views it managed to rack up is any indication, it looks like the studio can expect another monster hit this coming March.

Thank you to all our fans for your support! 109 million global views for the Marvel Studios' @CaptainMarvel trailer in 24 hours. Higher. Further. Faster. #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/b3SqnkAN42

— Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) September 19, 2018

109 million views in 24 hours puts it ahead of the first trailers for Black Panther (89 million) and Captain America: Civil War (95 million), with only Avengers: Infinity War’s two trailers (230 million and 179 million) and Thor: Ragnarok’s first trailer (136 million), which is certainly an impressive feat given that Captain Marvel is a brand new franchise (albeit one that’s part of the established MCU, has the Marvel branding behind it, and is coming off the back of a major tease in the Infinity War post-credit stinger).

What did you make of the Captain Marvel trailer? Let us know in the comments below…

Captain Marvel follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) and sees Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) leading the cast as Carol Danvers alongside Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls), Gemma Chan (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Algenis Perez Soto (Sambá), Rune Temte (Eddie The Eagle), McKenna Grace (I, Tonya), Annette Bening (American Beauty), McKenna Grace (Gifted), Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding), Vik Sahay (Chuck), Kenneth Mitchell (Star Trek: Discovery), Chuku Modo (The Good Doctor), Clark Gregg (The Avengers) and Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
