Frank Marshall gives Indiana Jones 5 update, confirms no involvement from George Lucas

October 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

A fifth instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise has been in the works for several years now, but despite the fact that Harrison Ford isn’t getting any younger, the film was recently pushed back a year to 2021 after Solo: A Star Wars story screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan was brought in to work on the script.

After Indy’s last outing in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, we should perhaps be thankful that Steven Spielberg and company are happy to take their time to ensure that Indiana Jones 5 is done right. And to that end producer Frank Marshall has revealed to Coming Soon that a writers room has been assembled to work on ideas.

“I’m just here trying to get the writers room together,” said Marshall when asked for an update on the project: “Well, I dunno if you’d call it a writers room, but a lot of people that we trust pitch ideas and things. Gathering info.”

Kasdan then went on to confirm that for the first time in the franchise, Indiana Jones creator George Lucas doesn’t have any involvement with the latest adventure.

“I love being with George and having his input, but life changes and we’re moving on. He moved on. We’re very respectful of the original intentions of the movie, certainly Harrison’s character. The serialization of what the original intention was. I’d love to have George there. I love being around George and working with him, obviously. It’ll be a little different, because the ideas are coming from a different place now.”

Are you looking forward to Indiana Jones 5? And how do you feel about George Lucas not having any creative input into the movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
