Master Chief confirmed for Showtime’s live-action Halo series

November 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having been stuck in development hell for years, Microsoft’s long-planned Halo TV series found a new lease of life this past summer when it was picked up for a 10-episode season by Showtime, and now THR is reporting that the network has started casting for the show.

The outlet reports that the Halo series will feature the video game franchise’s protagonist Master Chief as a series regular, with a casting notice describing him as “a Spartan-like warrior of large build”.

Other characters set to join Master Chief in the show are Dr. Halsey (presumably Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the SPARTAN-II program and a prominent figure in Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians), along with an original character called Jenny, who is described as an Asian woman aged between 18-20.

Halo takes place during an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. The series hails from Kyle Killen (Awake), who will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Rise of the Planet of the Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.

Production on Halo is slated to begin in June 2019 in Budapest.
