It director signs on for H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine from producer Leonardo DiCaprio

November 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Having wrapped filming on It: Chapter Two, director Andy Muschietti is wasting little time in filling out his upcoming slate. Earlier this week he signed on to direct the manga adaptation Attack on Titan for Warner Bros., and now comes word that he has also boarded a new take on H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine at the same studio.

Muschietti has written a treatments for the new film, which he’ll also produce with sister and regular collaborator Barbara Muschietti, along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way. Arnold Leibovit is executive producing, having done so on the 2002 movie adaptation from director Simon Wells and starring Guy Pearce.

First published in 1895, The Time Machine tells the story of an inventor who creates a device capable of transporting a person through time; journeying some 800,000 years into the future, the time traveller discovers that mankind has evolved into two rival species – the Eloi and the Morlocks.

A TV adaptation of The Time Machine was also announced this past August from Sky Television and House Productions, which has Kibwe Tavares (Noughts & Crosses) set to direct from a script by Nick Payne (Wanderlust).

In addition to The Time Machine and Attack on Titan, Muschietti is also attached to the live-action Robotech movie, although at this point it’s a little unclear which project he plans to move onto once he finishes up with post-production on It: Chapter Two.
