Rumoured Black Widow casting breakdowns tease villains and more

November 16, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With a director on board in Cate Shortland (Lore) and a 2020 release date rumoured, it seems that Marvel Studios is now moving into the casting stage for the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie, and the folks at That Hashtag Show have shared some rumoured casting descriptions for the players set to feature alongside Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff.

According to the site, the main villain will be a male character, simply described as “exciting”, with Marvel looking to cast an actor of any ethnicity in their 40s. In addition, the search is underway for a “conniving female villain” in their 50s to star as a secondary antagonist.

A further five roles are being sought, including two “contemporaries” of the Black Widow – a “kick ass” character described as a “female Bond” and “a male with an emphasis on African, Middle Eastern or East Indian actors”, as well as male and female European Caucasians in the 50-60 year old age range, and a “bookish American” in his late 20s.

It’s difficult to put any theories together from the limited information available, but based on the timing of these casting breakdowns compared to past Marvel features, That Hashtag Show speculates that Marvel Studios could be looking to begin production on Black Widow in late February to early March. If that’s the case, then it would seem safe to assume we can expect some official casting news in the very near future.
