Aquaman advance ticket sales outpacing Avengers: Infinity War and Venom

November 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After the disappointing box office returns for last year’s Justice League, Warner Bros. and DC Films will be hoping that Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry can inject some new life into the DC Extended Universe this December with the release of the Aquaman solo movie.

Early tracking figures suggested that the James Wan-directed film could expect a domestic opening weekend in the region of $40 million to $60 million, but if the first day ticket sales are any indication, Aquaman may well make a much bigger splash than that.

According to Deadline, the film became Atom Tickets’ biggest advance ticket seller ever in its first 24 hours, even managing to top Avengers: Infinity War, which shattered opening records earlier this year with a $257.7 million domestic opening.

We should point out that Atom is just one of many advance ticket sellers, and it would be a MAJOR shock if Aquaman opened anywhere even close to Infinity War’s mammoth weekend.

However, leading ticket seller Fandango also reports strong business, with Aquaman outpacing Venom ($80.2 million domestic opening weekend) in its first 24 hours, so things are certainly looking positive for the DC movie at this point in time.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.”

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry and Graham McTavish in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 21st in North America.
